A life of challenges & escapes
Even with her visual impairment, Kat has always loved exploring the great outdoors. Her family lives in the countryside, where open spaces give her freedom to roam. Kat’s determination means she can navigate her world — most of the time. However, she does occasionally run into things and, more distressingly, has “panic attacks” that cause her to take off, disoriented and frightened.
When Kat gets lost, it’s heart-wrenching for both her and her family. Sometimes she finds her way home after hours of wandering, leaving her family anxiously waiting, praying, and searching. Other times, she’s found miles away, so confused and scared that she doesn’t recognize her rescuer at first.
As Kat’s mom put it, “I have spent many sleepless hours looking for her, crying, praying for her safe return.”
